Observational Analysis

This analysis tracks daily temperature variability over California, for tmax (orange) and tmin (green).  Extremely warm temperatures represent days exceeding the 95th percentile (magenta), and these are classified as "exceptional" if temperatures exceed the 98th percentile.  Extreme low temperatures represent days colder than the historical 5th percentile (blue), and exceptionally cold days are the subset of those days falling below the historical 2nd percentile.  The temperature data are from gridMET.
